 Family | Community | Education | Professional Affiliations | Continuing Education  Family:Dr. Schur and his wife Shelly have been married for 14 years. They are very proud of their 13 year-old son, Blair, and 10 year-old daughter, Hailey. Family hobbies include camping, wakeboarding, water skiing, and travel, with particular passion for soccer (they can be found at Marymoor more often than at home), snow skiing, and for Hailey, ski racing. Family pets include Oreo--a border collie mix, Reilly--a golden retriever, and Smokey--a gray tabby. Dr. Schur is also happy to discuss college football and basketball, restaurants, and techniques for smoking ribs. Community: Coaching of youth sports has been an important focus in Dr. Schur's life, dating back to before his children were born. He is currently coaching his daughter's U-11 soccer team, The Kixie Chicks. He also serves as an Assistant Scout Master. He formerly served as Ethics Committee Chairman for the Seattle-King County Dental Society, was involved in fund-raising for the Kirkland Performing Arts Center. Education: Dr. Schur attended the University of Washington Department of Orthodontics from 1986-88, where he received his specialty certificate in orthodontics along with a Masters of Science in Dentistry. His master's research investigated the incidence of TMJ symptoms in patients before and after orthodontic treatment. Prior to specializing in orthodontics, Dr. Schur attended the UCLA School of Dentistry from 1982-86, where he was given a senior class award for achievement in orthodontics and was honored with selection to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary dental society. At UCLA he participated in research showing that dental implants can be used as anchors for orthodontic movement of teeth. Two articles were published from this research. Professional Affiliations: Seattle-King County Dental Society, Washington State Dental Association, American Dental Association, Washington State Society of Orthodontists, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, University of Washington Orthodontic Alumni Association, UCLA Dental Alumni Association, Pankey Institute Alumni Association, Eastside Pankey Dental Study Club, and Evergreen Orthodontic Study Club. Continuing Education: Dr. Schur receives continuing education through courses at orthodontic and dental society meetings as well as through local study clubs. He attended the Pankey Dental Institute's specialists' course in Key Biscayne, Florida. The Pankey Institute provides continuing education for dentists who wish to focus on optimal quality of care. Dr. Schur is certified in the use of the Invisalign appliance. |
