Jeffrey Schur - Bellevue Redmond WA

My wife Shelly and I have been married for 20 years. We are very proud of our 19 year-old son, Blair, and 17 year-old daughter, Hailey. Family activities include skiing, SCUBA diving, and travel, with a particular passion for soccer (we can be found at Marymoor & 60 Acres more often than at home), and for Hailey, ski racing. We also enjoy white water rafting, working out at the gym, and indoor rock climbing. One of my passions is investigating and refining techniques for smoking ribs. Family pets include Reilly, a golden retriever, and Smokey, a massive but very friendly Maine Coon cat.

Coaching youth sports has been an important focus in my life, dating back to before our children were born. I am currently an assistant coach for a local girls' U17 select soccer team. I enjoy serving as a member of the Linfield College Parent Council Leadership Team and as a Team Alpental Snoqualmie ski team board member. I formerly served as Ethics Committee Chairman for the Seattle-King County Dental Society. Our family supports the Seattle Ronald McDonald House and Seattle Union Gospel Mission.

The University of Washington orthodontic program provided a superb foundation for my career. My master's research at U.W. determined the frequency of TMJ symptoms in patients before and after orthodontic treatment. Prior to specializing in orthodontics, I attended the UCLA School of Dentistry from 1982-86. There I was selected for a senior class award for achievement in orthodontics and inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary dental society. At UCLA I was fortunate enough to participate in research showing that dental implants can be used as anchors for orthodontic movement of teeth--something that is now considered basic orthodontic technique. Two articles were published from this research. Keeping current on the science and practice of orthodontics is done through courses at orthodontic and dental society meetings, Invisalign seminars, as well as through local study clubs. As an attendee of The Pankey Dental Institute's specialists' course, I've made a career-long commitment to optimal patient care. The Pankey focus includes technical excellence, taking the time to get to know our patients, and establishing close working relationships with excellent general dentists and specialists in our area.
