Practice:Our practice philosophy is simple: give our patients the care and service that we want for ourselves and our loved ones. In short, this means proper individualized attention in a clean, pleasant, and safe environment. You can trust that we do our best to keep on time. Most importantly, we're dedicated to providing care in a non-"factory" setting. This is accomplished through careful scheduling, as well as a policy whereby every adjustment, appliance placement, and treatment decision is made by the doctor. You just won't hear our patients comment about not seeing the doctor. Treatment: It is important that treatment be individualized, based upon the patient or parent's needs and desires. A good treatment plan follows from setting appropriate treatment goals. Factors include optimization of oral health, jaw joint health and comfort, cosmetic or esthetic desires for the teeth and face, issues of dental wear, and setting a good foundation for future dental work. Listening to your input, and working closely with your dentist, allows Dr. Schur to optimally plan your treatment and to provide you with appropriate treatment options. Scheduling: Our scheduling philosophy is based upon respect for your time. We appreciate that you have made room in your busy schedule for orthodontic treatment, and we want you to understand that we devote ourselves to being on time. Precise scheduling allows us to direct proper attention to your treatment while staying on time as much as possible. For this reason we can accommodate late patients or surprise repairs only as our schedule permits. Please remember that this policy is in place out of respect for the time and needs of all our patients. If you are in need of repairs or realize that you will be late to a scheduled visit, please call so that we can determine whether your appointment should be rescheduled. Please also be aware that in fairness to all patients, we cannot reserve appointment times for convenient rescheduling of missed visits. Safety and Privacy: Your safety is our highest concern. We use state-of-the-art sterilization and disinfection systems in combination with disposable items to maximize your protection against infectious agents. Our sterilizers are meticulously maintained, and we use a university laboratory to monitor their effectiveness on a weekly basis. We do not and never have used recycled braces. We have always respected patient privacy, and our HIPAA program is in place. A note on x-rays: Dr. Schur is sensitive to concerns about x-ray exposure. We are guided by what is called standard of care principles in determining what x-rays are necessary. We will call your dentist to determine what current x-rays can be copied for our use. State-of-the-art dental and orthodontic x-ray laboratories are used to assure the highest diagnostic quality in combination with minimal x-ray exposure. If patients or parents refuse x-rays, it may be determined that it is below the standard of care to proceed with treatment, due to diagnostic limitations. |
