My Favorite Places For Pregame Food

Stadium area pregame food

In Seattle we are fortunate to have two fantastic sports stadiums that are ideally located for pregame dining and socializing with friends and fellow fans. My wife and I are big Sounders fans, and we like to head to Seattle a few hours early to go for a long walk and then take part in the lively pregame atmosphere. Although there is wealth of fine options in the Pioneer Square and Sodo districts, here are some of our favorites:

Pioneer Square Area

Rain Shadow Meats
Conveniently located on Occidental, Rain Shadow is described as a full-service butchery featuring unique cuts of local meats and house-made charcuterie. Where they really shine as a pregame option is with their superb sandwiches. Although you can’t go wrong, my two favorites are the corned beef on rye with gruyere, and The Dipper, a French dip of shredded beef, white cheddar, and horseradish sauce.

Taylor Shellfish Oyster Bar

Taylor Shellfish Farms is a Seattle institution that really needs no introduction. Fortunately for Mariners, Seahawks, and Sounders fans, they put an an oyster bar just a couple of doors down form Rain Shadow on Occidental. If you like fresh shellfish in a classic Pioneer Square atmosphere, this is definitely the place for you!

Sodo

Schooner Exact

This brewery-based restaurant in Sodo boasts former Tom Douglas-employeed Chef Warren Peterson. The food goes way above and beyond typical brewpub fare. The menu speaks for itself. I recently went with a fairly large group, and to sum it up, everyone liked everything. They have a kids’ menu as well. The facility is on 1st Ave, south of the stadiums. It’s too far to walk, but well worth going early for.

Georgetown

Slim’s Last Chance Chili Shack

Further south on 1st Ave you’ll find this Georgetown classic, which was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Chili lovers will find a choice of Texas Red (my favorite), Brisket n’ Bean, Chili Verde, and Turkey & White Bean chili. They’re offered straight or over your choice of corn bread, white cheddar grits, or jalapeño mac & cheese. This is a fun and quirky 21 & over Texas-style establishment.
